Pulmonary Medicine is the branch of medicine that deals with the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases affecting the lungs. Pulmonary Medicine deals with many diseases and conditions, including: ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome), asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer, and various other conditions. Pulmonary Medicine is also sometimes called pulmonology, which is the science concerned with the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the lungs.
Our pulmonologists are active in the Oregon Health & Science University medical school, Providence Portland Medical Center, and Providence St. Vincent residency programs as teachers, program directors and researchers. The Oregon Clinic is the regional referral group for the National Jewish Hospital in Denver for Pulmonary Fibrosis. Along with other area medical specialists, our pulmonologists participate in the Thoracic Oncology Program, which provides advanced management of chest cancers such as lung and esophageal cancer.
The Oregon Clinic is proud to offer one of the first Lung Cancer Screening Programs in the Portland metro area that uses low-dose CT scans to screen for lung cancer. Learn more.

Meet Our Providers:
Today, lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer in America.
In the last 35 years, the lung cancer death rate has fallen 21 percent among men, but has increased 116 percent among women. New studies have shown that low-dose CT screening for high-risk individuals (and meet the USPSTF guidelines) can reduce mortality by 14 percent.
